There are various minor errors thus, Tolja should be Galja (p. I2, line 31); the photograph on p. go should be dated I9I6; it is doubtful whether Benislavskaia had an affair with Lev Povitskii (p. 307). Irma Duncan's dates are 1897-I977 (p. 525). Isadora Duncan was born in I877 (p. 525), Miklashevskaiain I89I (p. 541), and Tret'iakovi n I892 (p. 55I). Erlikh died in 1937, and his patronymic was Iosifovich (p. 526); Klychkov died in I937 (p. 536). Substantial parts of this book were published throughout 1992 in the Moscow journal Nash sovremennik,edi ted by Stanislav Kuniaev.

N. N. Braun states thiat his father, the poet N. L. Braun (having observed Esenin's corpse in the hotel Angleterre, noting the marks on his body, the signs of struggle, his normal complexion, etc.), rejected the notion that Esenin hanged himself - see N. N. Braun's speech, given in St Petersburgo n 6June 1995, as summarizedi n the bookletK olpitsa No. 28, Kolpino, I995, pp. 9-I . In his own verse, N. N. Letter from T. S. Esenina to G. McVay, Tashkent, I7 November I990. The original Russian text is published in Stoletie Sergeia Esenina (see note 49), p. 472. Tat'iana Esenina has also stated: 'In recent times the kindling of anti-Semitism has encouraged the growth of versionsw hich claim that Eseninw as killedb y theJews . . .' (in thej ournal Soglasie, Moscow, 199 I, 4, p. I80).
The Murmansk composer Arkadii Liapin has set some of Iurii Volkov's Esenin poems to music - see A. Liapin and Iu. Volkov,Z hivet vdusheE senin. Pesni romansyAr kadiia Liapinan a stikhiI uriia Volkova, Moscow, I995, 39 pp., 300 copies, foreword by N. I. Shubnikova- Guseva. A. Liapin has also issued a large-format booklet containing settings of various poems by Sergei Esenin - see Arkadii Liapin, Molodoi, kakr assvet. Pesnin a stikhiS ergeia Esenina, Kompozitor,M oscow, 1995, 56 pp., 2000 copies. The selectionc loses with a poem by N. Rylenkov, some lines of which give the booklet its title: 'He will remain thirty years old, / Eternally young like the dawn. . .' (p. 56).
